Bill Way is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Southwestern Energy Company. In 2011 he joined the company as Chief Operating Officer responsible for all of the company’s E&P and midstream businesses. From 2014 to 2016 he served as President and Chief Operating Officer before being named to his current role in 2016. Previously, he was Senior Vice President, Americas at BG Group plc, with responsibility for E&P, Midstream and LNG operations in the U.S., Trinidad and Tobago, Chile, Bolivia, Canada and Argentina as well as BG’s global shipping business. He began his career at Conoco and over the course of his more than twenty-seven year tenure, he held a wide range of senior leadership positions in E&P, LNG, Midstream and Shipping operations in the U.S., Scotland, United Arab Emirates, and Trinidad and Tobago.
Bill earned his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University and his MBA from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Texas. He serves as a Director for several secondary educational organizations, as well as the American Petroleum Institute and the Boys and Girls Country. Bill is a member of the Texas A&M Engineering Advisory Council, the National Petroleum Council and the American Exploration and Production Council.
Julian is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He joined SWN in 2017.
Julian has deep-rooted experience in finance and oil and gas. He has served as CFO of SandRidge Energy, Texas American Resources and 3DMD Technologies. Previously he held executive positions at the Toronto Dominion Bank and Bankers Trust Company. Julian holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Harvard University and an MBA from Rice University.
Clay Carrell is Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, responsible for managing Southwestern Energy’s operational and technical activities.
Clay joined SWN in 2017. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of EP Energy. He joined El Paso Corporation in 2007, where he held various leadership roles and helped establish EP Energy as an independent company before being named Chief Operating Officer. Clay has worked in the energy industry for the past 30 years serving in various U.S. and international engineering and management roles at ARCO Oil and Gas Company, Burlington Resources and Peoples Energy Production.
Carrell holds a bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University. He served on the Industry Board of the Texas A&M Petroleum Engineering Department, is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and serves on the Board of Trustees for the Center for Hearing and Speech in Houston.
David Cecil is the Executive Vice President of Corporate Development of Southwestern Energy Company. He is responsible for guiding SWN’s strategic direction and identifying and capitalizing on growth opportunities, including corporate and business development prospects.
David joined SWN in 2017. Most recently he was Managing Director and Head of Lazard’s North American E&P group, where he served from 2012 to 2017. David has extensive experience advising corporate boards of directors and executives on strategy, business development and capital allocation. Previously, he was Managing Director of Scotia Waterous (USA), the oil and gas arm of Scotiabank, where he led the U.S. energy investment banking practice. Earlier in his career, he served as Managing Director of BMO Financial Group.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from Duke University.
John Ale is the Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Southwestern Energy. In 2013 he joined the company in this role. Before joining Southwestern Energy, John was Vice President and General Counsel of Occidental Petroleum Corporation. John’s career also includes partner roles with Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Vinson & Elkins LLP. In addition, John served as a law clerk to Chief Justice Warren E. Burger of the U.S. Supreme Court and to Judge Edward Tamm of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit.
John earned both his bachelor’s degree in Economics and his juris doctorate degree from the University of Virginia.
Jenny McCauley is the Senior Vice President of Administration of Southwestern Energy. In 2009 she joined the company as Senior Vice President of Human Resources. In 2016 she was named to her current role which includes responsibility for Supply Chain, Human Resources, Communications and Support Services. Before joining Southwestern Energy, Jenny was Vice President Human Resources for the Americas and Global LNG region of BG Group plc. Her career also includes a variety of human resources roles with JPMorgan Chase, ARAMARK Uniform Services and Hilton Hotels Corporation.
Jenny earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Saint Mary’s College and her master’s degree in Psychology and Human Development from the University of Texas at Dallas. She serves on the boards and actively volunteers for several Houston-area nonprofit organizations.
Jason Kurtz is the Vice President of Marketing and Transportation at Southwestern Energy. Previously, he also served as SWN’s interim Vice President of Midstream until the sale of the company’s gathering asset in late 2018. Jason joined SWN in 1997 as Gas Sales Manager and held progressively responsible roles. By 2010, he was managing SWN’s Marketing and Transportation division and in 2012 became the division’s Vice President. Prior to joining Southwestern Energy, Jason was involved in direct sales and leasing of natural gas compression packages for J-W Power Company.
Jason earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Oklahoma State University.
