Southwestern Energy understands that a good education can change a person’s life, so over the years we have participated in several programs that enhance opportunities for schools and students. Beyond our signature education programs, we’ve also established a math, science and technology grant for school districts where we have operations in the Fayetteville Shale play.

Junior Achievement of Arkansas

Junior Achievement logoOur partnership with Junior Achievement of Arkansas began in 2007 and since that time we've connected SWN volunteers with approximately 4,000 Arkansas high school students. These volunteers are helping students learn financial literacy through Junior Achievement's Personal Finance curriculum.  The program teaches students the context of personal financial decisions.  SWN has pledged or contributed $400,000 since the partnership began.

Petroleum Technology Program and The Fayetteville Shale Scholarship FundUACCM logoOur efforts to support higher education include a partnership with the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM).  In 2006, a donation from Southwestern Energy helped establish UACCM's petroleum technology program. SWN also actively contributes to the Fayetteville Shale Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to students preparing for careers in Arkansas’ oil and gas industry at the university. www.uaccm.edu

It is important for SWN to support educational initiatives like the science fair because it promotes interest in and exposure to science and technology. In 2010, SWN pledged $100,000 to further this initiative. We are dedicated to continuing our partnership with this organization and to build upon its commitment to students in Arkansas.

Aldine Independent School District

Our Houston offices are proud to partner with the Aldine ISD in an annual recycling program that generates additional funds for the district. Each year, our annual reports are donated to the district, which takes them to a local recycling center and exchanges them for cash rebates. The additional money is used for equipment upgrades in the schools.

Frye Festival

Our support of learning is present in all areas of our operations, including New Brunswick, Canada. In 2011, SWN Resources Canada established a partnership with the Frye Festival's "Cafe Underground", which promotes literacy, reading and writing among high school students. The partnership provides French and English 9th-12th graders with the unique opportunity to showcase their poetry, prose and song-writing. The Frye Festival, Atlantic Canada's largest literary event, promotes literacy , reading and writing to high school students.
