Corporate Responsibility > Involvement with Our Local Communities

Southwestern Energy Company actively supports the communities in which we operate, not only because it is important to our continued success, but because we believe it is the right thing to do. We encourage our officers, employees and Board of Directors to join us in contributing time and money to improve the lives of our neighbors. Our commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen is demonstrated by the numerous programs and initiatives that we have implemented to improve access to education, encourage charitable giving and provide home heating assistance to the economically disadvantaged.

Education
The Company encourages employees and directors to give financial aid to the colleges or universities of their choice. Employees and directors may give to any degree granting graduate and professional schools, universities and four-year colleges that are regionally or professionally accredited and recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as tax-exempt, and the Company will contribute a dollar-for-dollar match up to a maximum amount designated each year.

As part of its efforts to support higher learning in the communities in which it operates, Southwestern Energy Company has partnered with the University of Arkansas Community College at Morrilton (UACCM) in the establishment of a petroleum technology program in connection with the Company’s emerging Fayetteville Shale play. The Company has pledged $200,000 to UACCM relating to the program and is an ongoing contributor to the related Fayetteville Shale Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to students preparing for careers in Arkansas' oil and gas industry.

In April 2007, the Company pledged $250,000 to Junior Achievement of Arkansas, establishing a new three-year partnership to bring economics and energy curriculum to high school students throughout north central Arkansas. Junior Achievement of Arkansas is a statewide non-profit organization which works with young people to value free enterprise, business and the importance of education. The gift is the largest donation made to Junior Achievement of Arkansas in its 20-year history.

Charitable Contributions
Our employees are encouraged to give generously to charitable organizations and the Company supports their efforts through various Company-wide fundraising drives with matching gift programs. The Company and its employees have recently participated in charitable fundraising programs for The Salvation Army, The American Red Cross, March of Dimes, The American Heart Association, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, and the United Way.

In 2005, the Company pledged a total of $400,000 to the American Red Cross, The Salvation Army and the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund in support of relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and created a matching gift program pursuant to which the Company matched one-for-one cash contributions made by Southwestern employees without limitation.

In March 2007, the Company announced a $250,000 donation to create the Damascus Bobwhite Quail Habitat Project in north central Arkansas in a ground-breaking public-private partnership with the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, and the Arkansas Association of Conservation Districts. The bobwhite quail, a species that has been on the decline in Arkansas since the 1980s, will have a new opportunity to thrive in an area covering an estimated 9,700 acres in Conway, Faulkner and Van Buren counties. The project will also provide technical and financial support to landowners seeking to create, restore, maintain or manage habitat for bobwhite quail.
